MUSIC OF THE SOUL
The Klaipėda Choir “Aukuras” was formed in 1993 at the initiative of choir conductors Alfonsas Vildžiūnas and Vladimiras Konstantinovas. Alfonsas Vildžiūnas has been at the helm of the Choir since 1996.
The Choir’s wide-ranging and diversified activities do not fit with the stereotypical image of the choir as being overly-serious and unremarkable. Powerful voices and artistry of the singers, as well as their democratic approach to the formation of the repertoire help instantly earn appreciation among their audiences. It is not only rewarding to listen to their singing, but also great fun to watch them perform. Professional musicians eulogize their richness of tone, good intonation and attention to modern and technically demanding works, which they perform with obvious enthusiasm. The Choir is an active participant of the city’s musical life. Its repertoire includes sacred and secular music from various epochs and styles, arrangements of jazz compositions and spirituals, as well as choral music for children.
