In this concert programme, Latvian saxophone quartet, the Atomos, and percussionist Ernests Mediņš offer their listeners an entertaining pastime with jazzy rhythms, harmonies and tunes collected while touring the American and European cities.

In the beginning of the 20th century New York was a dream city for many jazz musicians. It was a meeting place for the pioneers of bebop, composers-performers Charlie Parker, Charles Mingus, and Dizzy Gillespie. The programme will feature works by these influential artists in the arrangements for saxophone quartet and percussion.

The same level of rhythmic energy and whoop-de-doo will accompany the works by Mike Mower, founder of the legendary British saxophone quartet, The Itchy Fingers, and American record producer and jazz keyboardist Bob James.

On this musical journey we will also visit sunny California represented by the colourful compositions of Rebeca Mauleón and Jim Hartog. These illustrations of busy urban hustle and bustle will be contrasted with atmospheric Latvian jazz. This camp will be represented by the member of the Atomos Quartet, Roberts Martini, and his composition Doubt and compositions by Latvian jazz keyboardist and composer Ritvars Garoza who often reflects on life beyond the hustle of the city in his music.
